UCF has recently been recognized with 4 awards for undergraduate engagement, particularly Service-Learning!
UCF is the recipient of the Florida Campus Compact (FCC) Engaged Campus Award for 2007-2008. The application, written by Dr. Melody Bowdon and Amy Zeh, resulted in UCF's recognition as "First in Class & Overall Statewide Winner" for the commitment to and successful practices in engagement at UCF. Congratulations to the Office of Experiential Learning, Service Learning, the Office of Student Involvement, Volunteer UCF, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and many others whose dedication to service-learning resulted in this recognition.
Dr. Trae Stewart of UCF's College of Education received FCC's Service-Learning Research Award for his research in the integration of community volunteering with traditional classroom experiences. Dr. Stewart was recognized for his work on the Civic Education Project and the Center for Talented Youth. He has also been named a John Glen Service Learning Scholar, has been awarded the Gulf South Summit Award for research contributions to service-learning, and has been the recipient of a Faculty Excellence Award in Undergraduate Teaching at UCF.
UCF President John C. Hitt was recently honored at the annual Mid-Florida Business Hall of Fame event with the Spirit of Achievement Award from Junior Achievement of Central Florida, as well as the "President's Volunteer Service Award" from the "President's Council on Service and Civic Participation" with a letter signed by United States President George W. Bush. For more information, please visit the UCF Newsroom article.
These recognitions show that UCF is on the Path to Prominence and that the efforts of our faculty, staff, students, administrators, and community partners are being recognized.
